Fans mock Josh Allen as Hailee Steinfeld makes Super Bowl appearance

When actress Hailee Steinfeld appeared in a new Super Bowl commercial for State Farm this week, the buzz wasn’t just about the ad’s creative twist. It was the reaction it sparked toward her husband, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

The commercial, set to air during Super Bowl LX, quickly became a flashpoint for fans online who pointedly noted that Steinfeld will be front and center on the sport’s biggest stage while Allen‘s season ended weeks earlier.

Steinfeld stars in a playful spot titled “Stop Livin’ on a Prayer,” where she navigates the chaos of a parody insurance scenario alongside comedians Danny McBride and Keegan-Michael Key.

Instead of focusing on football, the commercial leans on humor and a twist on Bon Jovi‘s classic anthem with Steinfeld delivering the punchline, “I should’ve gone with State Farm.”

The irony wasn’t lost on NFL fans. On X, a social media post by NFL insider Dov Kleiman captioned the clip with “State Farm has released its official Super Bowl commercial starring Josh Allen‘s wife, Hailee Steinfeld. Allen is finally going to the Super Bowl “, a remark that readers interpreted as shade.

Fans took that cue and ran with it.

One commenter quipped, “At least one Allen made it.”

Steinfeld‘s commercial appearances at the Super Bowl may outnumber Allen‘s actual game appearances.

This year isn’t even the first time she’s been connected to the event. She previously starred in a commercial during Super Bowl LIX that focused on women’s health and cancer awareness.

What this says about Allen‘s standing with fans

Despite Allen‘s status as one of the league’s premier quarterbacks and recent MVP honors, a Super Bowl appearance has eluded him.

Bills fans have watched the team get close year after year, only to fall short in the playoffs.

That gap in achievements often becomes fodder for social media. In the wake of the commercial release, one fan joked, “This is the only way someone in this couple is gonna make a Super Bowl appearance.”

Others were quick to remind critics that the commercial spotlight shouldn’t diminish Allen‘s accomplishments, noting that star power and success in the NFL don’t always overlap neatly.

Allen‘s personal life has frequently been part of the conversation, too. Off the field, he and Steinfeld are among the league’s most visible couples.

They married in May 2025 and announced they’re expecting their first child.

While Allen once highlighted the importance of his wife by calling her “the most fulfilling part of my life,” fans’ reactions to the ad show that narrative can take on a life of its own when mixed with competitive sports discourse.

The commercial will air Sunday during Super Bowl LX, and given the social media reaction so far, it’s sure to be among the most talked-about non-game moments of the night.
