Fan ejected for ‘inviting suicide’ to Red Sox player

the honesty of Jarren Duran is taking its toll. Last Sunday in Cleveland, a Guardians fan was ejected for “inappropriate comments” toward the Red Sox player that forced security members at Progressive Field to intervene. The Ohio-based baseball franchise issued an apology and the game was stopped for several minutes in response to Duran, who had confessed weeks earlier in a documentary about his suicide attempt

Duran later acknowledged that the comments were due to his mental health issues. The outfielder had spoken openly about his suicide attempt in 2022 and the depression he suffered early in his MLB career in 2021 and 2022. His story is featured in Netflix’s eight-episode documentary series, ‘The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox’.

During the seventh inning of Boston’s 13-3 victory on Sunday, the Red Sox scored three runs and Duran flew out to left field in what was otherwise a stellar day with four hits. The fan yelled at him as he returned to the Boston bench. “He said something inappropriate and out of place, but I’m glad the security members sorted it out,” he said

“When you open up like that, you also expose yourself to enemies, but I have a good support team around me, along with teammates and coaches, which is fantastic,” said the 28-year-old, who played in the 2024 All-Star Game

The Guardians issued a statement apologizing for the behavior of their fan. “We recognize the severity of the behavior in question and take this type of conduct very seriously. We apologize to the Red Sox. We have identified the fan in question and will work with MLB to determine next steps. We strive to provide the best experience for visiting players and fans, and today we failed to do so.”
