Fact check: Did Abdul Carter really slept through a Giants Walkthrough?

Abdul Carter, the Giants‘ outside linebacker, was criticized for allegedly falling asleep at the team facility. He was benched during the opening defensive series of Sunday’s loss to the Packers for what he himself described as “a mistake made during the week that hurt the team.” However, there was a twist to this story.

Last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, the Giants suffered numerous injuries, forcing quarterback Jameis Winston to start, but ultimately, the team fell short of pulling off what would have been a major upset. Some fans quickly noticed that rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter was not on the field to lead off New York’s opening defensive series.

Abdul Carter denies falling asleep with Giants

The Athletic subsequently published a report claiming Carter was being disciplined for falling asleep during practice this week, which Carter later denied, writing, “I wasn’t asleep, I was actually recovering. Anyway, it’s my fault!” on X, formerly Twitter, under a post by Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

When hate doesn’t work, they start lying!

Carter has since posted another message on X, seemingly referencing the scandal: “When hate doesn’t work, they start lying!” It remains to be seen whether Carter will face any further disciplinary action after repeatedly addressing the incident on social media, but it certainly doesn’t paint a good picture for the Giants organization to have their star player appear to be at odds with the team publicly.

Giants hope to have Jaxson Dart available for the game against the Detroit Lions

During the same week that the New York Giants made significant changes, they also advised Jaxson Dart to seriously consider making some changes himself. People both inside and outside the Giants organization spoke with Dart, who remains in concussion protocol, and urged the rookie quarterback to be more thoughtful and careful about when and how he runs.

Dart did not play last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers due to the concussion he suffered last week against the Chicago Bears. He was seen at practice more than seven days ago stretching as he tries to recover in time for next Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
