Expectations for Travis Hunter are sky-high and the NFL will have a historic player, insider says

Travis Hunter is one of those generational talents who could even be considered a “phenomenon.” It’s no secret that players who can excel on both defense and offense are rare, and it’s no secret that the former Colorado Buffaloes star can do just that.

The big question is whether he can perform at the NFL level, though many believe we could be in for a big surprise.

Travis Hunter and the high expectations

As we’ve established, Travis Hunter is capable of doing things other prospects cannot, which has generated high expectations, positioning him as one of the candidates to win Rookie of the Year on both offense and defense.

At least that’s what ESPN‘s Dan Graziano predicts, who sees Hunter finishing among the top three in voting for the individual award on both sides of the ball.

“Jaguars two-way star Travis Hunter will finish in the top three of voting for Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year. I want to say he’ll win both, but that seems like a long shot even for him. I just love Hunter’s abilities and want to get him into my predictions in some way,” Graziano wrote.

Although it’s still unclear where he’ll get the most reps, the prospect’s combination of skills will allow him to make an impact on both sides of the ball, something no one else in the NFL can claim.

It’s also no secret that Hunter will be considered more of a wide receiver, but it can’t be ruled out that he’ll make game-changing plays week after week.

Very soon, during this series of preseason training sessions, the player will begin working on the defensive side.

“He’s been able to dive in and learn some of our three-deep coverages, what we call our three-deep coverages on the outside, if he has to be manned up on the backside of a three-by-one, he knows all of those calls already,” the Jaguars’ head coach recently said.

“So, at the end of the day, it’s going to be about, on the defensive side of the ball, communication. The technique and fundamentals, we’ll continue to harp on, but it’s really about being on the same page as the rest of the guys on the back end from a communication standpoint, and the rest will kind of take care of itself.”
