Ex-NFL quarterback blasts Dillon Gabriel and believes Shedeur Sanders will have a great career in the league

After a stellar performance by Shedeur Sanders against the Carolina Panthers in the Cleveland Browns’ first preseason game, there was high anticipation about whether Kevin Stefanski would give Sanders repetitions in the joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the quarterback was sidelined.

Media present at the practice began leaking information, and criticism of Stefanski quickly followed. Later, it was reported that Shedeur Sanders suffered an oblique injury during warm-ups, which was why he could not participate in the practice.

Now, reports from the Browns’ camp indicate that Sanders’ recovery is being monitored day by day, and he will most likely not play on Saturday against the Eagles. This seems to open the opportunity for Dillon Gabriel, who did not play against the Panthers.

Ex-NFL quarterback doesn’t believe in Dillon Gabriel

Throughout the Cleveland Browns’ training camp, Dillon Gabriel has been favored in repetitions over Shedeur Sanders, who has been largely invisible despite his strong moments in practice for Head Coach Kevin Stefanski.

Former NFL quarterback Shaun King shared his opinion on both quarterbacks during the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, delivering a strong critique by ranking Dillon Gabriel as a seventh-round talent rather than the third-round pick he was in the past draft by the Browns.

“I had Dillon Gabriel rated as a seventh-round pick and Shedeur rated as a late first or early second-round pick,” King said. “I think if Sanders had been selected in the third round and Gabriel in the fifth, that would give the Browns the opportunity to keep only three quarterbacks, so I think they would have released Gabriel.”

Now the pressure is on Dillon Gabriel, who appears to have recovered from his hamstring injury. Everything points to him starting the preseason game against the Eagles on Saturday, where a poor performance could create real turmoil in the Browns’ camp.
