Even sidelined by injury, Tiger Woods is quietly steering a PGA Tour revolution

Tiger Woods continues to struggle with the injuries that have kept him away from the sport he loves. However, despite announcing his seventh back surgery, the golf GOAT will play a central role in what lies ahead for the PGA Tour.

Tiger will be involved with the PGA Tour’s Future Competition Committee, and this comes amid growing rumours about potential changes to the Tour schedule. Rex Hoggard and Ryan Lavner discussed the topic on Golf Channel’s podcast.

The probable changes coming to the PGA Tour

Rex Hoggard addressed the possible adjustments being considered for the Tour; however, he clarified that these would not take effect soon.

He [Brian Rollapp] probably can’t do it [cutting down signature events] before 2027. You probably can’t do it before 2030, to be honest with you.

Rex Hoggard

Ryan Lavner then added:

There’s a handful of players who are on there: Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Keith Mitchell, Maverick McNeely, Camila Vijas-those are the players who are in the room. It [schedule changes] is far from a done deal, but I cannot imagine that [English’s statements] went over pretty well at PGA HQ.

Ryan Lavner

The discussion gained momentum after PGA Tour professional Harris English stated that the season would begin after the Super Bowl and that several traditional tournaments would be reduced.

Seriously and genuinely because this was just one of the ideas.

The new committee, chaired by Tiger Woods, has met only once so far, but if the proposed changes are implemented, it will rely on people who understand the sport because they have played it at the highest level.

However, both Lavner and Hoggard know that if events are reduced, the current contracts would keep them in place until 2030.

With Woods as the face of the committee, they expect:

The optimal competitive model that enhances the PGA TOUR’s value to fans, players, and partners.

The Future Competition Committee

These changes are highly anticipated by golf fans, who see Tiger Woods as a key figure capable of guiding the sport in a positive direction during the coming years.

Tiger Woods’ health improves, but slowly

As is widely known, Woods has struggled with his health in recent years. Over time, he has been forced to reduce his activity due to ongoing physical issues.
