The ESPY Awards are the Oscars of sport. Same city, same place, same luxuries, but the nominees are elite athletes instead of actors, actresses, make-up artists and directors. It is the gala of sport
The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles will host the gala, which will take place on Tuesday, July 16. This time, instead of hosting Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson and company, it will see the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Saquon Barkley, Simone Biles and Caitlin Clark, among others
Well, Ohtani will not be present. He has to play in the MLB All-Star Game. And he won’t have a chance to get from Atlanta to Los Angeles on a private flight, no matter how fast the jet is
- Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is one of the guys in the movie. He arrives with three nominations: Best Male Athlete, Best NFL Player and Best Play (for his iconic backflip in the middle of a game)
- Ohtani is again nominated for Best Male Athlete. He also has a nomination as the best Major League Baseball player, which he undoubtedly is. In the female category, Simone Biles and A’ja Wilson stand out.
- As the revelation of the year, you can read the name of who will be the starter this Tuesday for the National League, Paul Skenes, who, for obvious reasons, will not be there to receive the award, if he wins it
- The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher is joined by Cooper Flagg, a recent NBA Draft pick, as a double nominee: Breakthrough and College Male Athlete of the Year.
