Enzo Fernández played a key role in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he went from being a substitute to becoming a key player on the championship-winning team.
After standing out with a goal against Mexico, he earned a starting spot and was instrumental in midfield, being named the tournament’s best young player. However, before the glory, he revealed his psychological work and the impact therapy had on his life.
Enzo speaks openly about his experience seeing a psychologist
The Chelsea midfielder spoke candidly about mental health and the impact therapy had on his personal and professional life, especially just a few months before competing in his first edition of the tournament:
“I started about two or three months before the World Cup, but it really changed my life,” Enzo said in an interview on the streaming channel Luzu TV. “I had never done therapy before. It changed my life because you start to express yourself, you start talking to someone about what’s going on with you, what you feel, what you do day to day, and what happens to me when I feel that way.”
During the interview, he explained that he began with group sessions led by Giuliano Pagano, where he shared experiences with players from Argentina’s First Division before starting individual sessions.
“It helped me develop self-awareness. I’d explain to him what was going on with me after training or after a game, when I was frustrated,” Enzo revealed.
Over time, he said he felt more prepared, more confident, and more balanced, to the point of considering therapy an essential part of his routine: “Today, honestly, I can’t live without it,” he stated.
In addition, Enzo sent a clear message, especially to younger people: seeking professional help is not a weakness, but a key tool in personal and professional development:
I’m taking this moment and this opportunity to tell young people to be aware that there’s a solution for everything, that they can talk to people who are trained and professional.
