The WNBA All-Star Game kept fans and players busy and attentive. However, the New York Liberty (15-6) didn’t sit still and strengthened their team.

With the goal of defending their title and enhancing the play of Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones, the New York team signed two-time All-Star Emma Meesseman.

The Liberty’s new addition

The former league champion has not played in the WNBA since 2022. However, Meesseman has committed to joining the Liberty, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou on Monday. In addition, it was also reported that her arrival will depend on how long it takes for the Belgian forward to process her visa.

Among her options, the 32-year-old also evaluated offers from DeWanna Bonner’s Phoenix Mercury and Napheesa Collier’s Minnesota Lynx, according to sources confirmed to ESPN.

Emma brings not only talent and experience, but also an impressive resume.

She previously played for the Washington Mystics for seven seasons. During her time with the team, she led them to the championship in 2019 and, in doing so, was named MVP of the WNBA Finals.

In 2022, the 6-foot-4 forward played for the Chicago Sky, averaging 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

This year, she competed in the EuroBasket with Belgium at the beginning of the summer, where she helped defend their title in the victory over Spain in the final. Emma averaged 19.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.

Her addition to the team not only makes clear her desire to protect the title but also to win it again and go down in league history as one of only four franchises to repeat as champions.
