On Saturday, Diego Pacheco was in danger of losing to Steven Nelson the top spot in the World Boxing Organization’s super middleweight rankings, but the judges gave the victory to the American.
After this fight, Edgar Berlanga wasted no time and started to put pressure everywhere to measure himself against Pacheco, in what he guarantees will be the best paid fight for the American, according to the Puerto Rican.
The 23-year-old has set his mind on fighting the top five contenders in the super middleweight division, including Edgar Berlanga, who last September lost to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Berlanga’s incendiary challenge
After the fight between Diego Pacheco and Steve Nelson, Edgar Berlanga sent an incendiary message to challenge Pacheco, with whom he shares a company with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.
“I’m going to get that young man a big payday and a big beating… you only get paid 200,000 per fight, damn it“
In the press conference after his fight against Steve Nelson, Diego Pacheco responded to these messages from Berlanga.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn said he was excited to stage this fight between Berlanga and Pacheco, but the little big problem that the businessman sees in this fight is the lack of commitment that Berlanga puts into the fight, as happened with his fight with Canelo, which represents the only defeat of the Puerto Rican in his career.
