Now that Mexican 168-pound champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has signed with Arab sheikh Turki Alalshikh for the next two years and four fights, promoter Eddie Hearn, president of Matchroom Sport, spoke about what a business relationship with the Mexican fighter is like and commented on recent remarks by Oscar de la Hoya disqualifying him, as he indicated that he is a “diva” and that he is only interested in making money
In an interview with the Seconds Out podcast, the Briton agreed with Golden Boy that Canelo has no loyalty but to himself, but stressed that in that sense, the champion never generated false expectations, so he considered that he is a great guy and acknowledged that there is no resentment after his contract ended and he changed promoter

Canelo has no loyalty, but he makes it very clear
He clarified: “By the way, there’s a difference between having loyalty in the boxing business and having loyalty in life. Canelo is a great guy, I think he is and I don’t mind that he’s constantly changing (promoter) because he’s quite honest about it.”
In fact, he said he recognized the sincerity of the Mexican champion, because it allowed him to understand where he stood in the relationship, without getting his hopes up
“He not going to call and say, ‘Oh Eddie, Eddie, I want to be with you for the rest of my career’,” he explained. “He says he loves working with us, and it’s true, he loves working with us, but he also says ‘wherever the best deal is for me, that’s where I’m going’, so you know where you stand.”
Hearn understands the new stage of Canelo Alvarez’s career
While De la Hoya has disparaged all of Canelo’s actions and decisions since they broke off their business relationship in 2020, Hearn, on the other hand, understood that for the success of his career, Canelo is at a point in his career where he can do whatever he wants:
“He’s at a stage in his career where he doesn’t really need to be loyal… Also, he’s got two or three fights left,” Hearn concluded.
