Saquon Barkley, the dynamic running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, recently reflected on the pivotal role his fiancée, Anna Congdon, plays both in his personal world and professional trajectory.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with E! News and opening up to People, Barkley emphasized that his fiancée’s unwavering support has been at the foundation of his growth as an athlete and a husband-to-be.
“When I look at some of the moments-my highs, my lows and my NFL career-one person that’s right next to me is my fiancée,” Barkley shared, “she’s been super helpful and we’ve been able to create a beautiful family.”
Their story began in 2017 at Penn State, when Barkley was a sophomore and Congdon a freshman. Their relationship swiftly evolved into a long-term partnership, grounded in mutual values and shared life experiences.
The couple has since welcomed two children: daughter Jada, born in April 2018, and son Saquon Jr., born in September 2022.
Reflecting on fatherhood, Barkley commented to People: “It’s a beautiful thing because we have two amazing children… and we just sit back and laugh sometimes when they’re over there playing and just smile and think about where everything started.”
In February 2025, just ahead of Super Bowl LIX, Barkley confirmed he had popped the question to Congdon approximately six months prior. “This is not new by the way,” he revealed. “I know it just broke the other day but I’ve been engaged for like six months.”
Throughout his interview with People, he reinforced how central she has been, saying, “I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have had in my career without the help of her.
She always has my back, not only in football but throughout life… as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better.”
The balance of football, family & future
As Barkley charts his next chapter-entering what many consider the prime of his career-he credits Congdon’s unwavering presence off the field.
“Having someone at home that loves you and [knowing] that they’re going to have your back no matter what” is, according to Barkley, “instrumental in going far.”
Amid offseason workouts and family time, the pair remains focused on expanding their family, following Barkley‘s earlier sentiment: “I used to be the type of person that would be like, ‘Oh, I want three,’ so, however many God want to bless us with, I’m with that.”
When reflecting on the unpredictable nature of football, where victories, injuries, and turnovers are part of the journey, Barkley points to returning home to Congdon as a grounding force. “No matter win, lose or draw, you get to come home…the things that really matter are right in front of you.”
