Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson reacts boldly to Packers’ request for Tush Push

The Philadelphia Eagles look set to continue using the Tush Push when the new NFL season begins, despite efforts from the Green Bay Packers to get the move banned.

Now, Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson has responded to the news that the Packers were the opposing team and want to move banned.

He quoted a tweet reporting the news and simply added a laughing emoji, which perhaps shows how the Super Bowl winners are reacting to the news.

Green Bay‘s frustration appears to be the catalyst for change. Citing safety concerns and a return to traditional play, the Packers have officially proposed that the NFL consider banning the move.

The Packers want change

The suggestion comes on the heels of remarks made by Packers president Mark Murphy earlier this month, urging a closer look at tactics that might endanger players and disrupt the game’s flow.

“I am not a fan of this play. There is no skill involved and it is almost an automatic first down on plays of a yard or less,” Murphy said during an in-house Q&A.

“The series of plays with the Commanders jumping offsides in the NFC Championship Game to try to stop the play was ridiculous. The referee even threatened to give the Eagles an automatic touchdown if the Commanders did not stop it. I would like to see the league prohibit pushing or aiding the runner (QB) on this play.

“There used to be a rule prohibiting this, but it is no longer enforced because I believe it was thought to be too hard for the officials to see. The play is bad for the game, and we should go back to prohibiting the push of the runner. This would bring back the traditional QB sneak. That worked pretty well for Bart Starr and the Packers in the Ice Bowl.”
