Eagles’ Jalen Hurts gets incredible news as key teammate makes selfless decision for team

It’s not easy to stay at the top of the NFL for longer than even one season. That’s what makes the Kansas City Chiefs‘ run under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes so special. But following a brutal loss in Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs’ longevity as a dynasty will truly be tested. On the other side, the Eagles are hoping this is the start of their own dynasty.

Philadelphia has built a powerhouse of a roster, stacked with talent at practically every position. It’s extremely difficult to keep the wins coming as star players demand higher paydays, but GM Howie Roseman is as capable as any to keep the roster humming with talent, keep players happy and comply with the salary cap. It’s not as easy as many GMs make it seem, particularly since the Eagles have four players with cap hits over $15 million for 2025, the largest of which is obviously quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Dallas Goedert takes pay cut to stay with Philadelphia Eagles

The team simply needs certain players to make sacrifices, and they got exactly that on Wednesday. Tight end Dallas Goedert, who was a legitimate trade candidate, restructured his contract, foregoing $4 million in order to stay in Philadelphia.

This is great news for Hurts, who has shown great chemistry with Goedert since he took over as the starting quarterback. Goedert has been with the Eagles for seven seasons. Although his best seasons came in 2021 and 2022, Goedert was on pace for a standout 2024, but injuries marred his year.

Thankfully, Goedert was healthy for the playoffs and once again showed his ability as one of the best tight ends in the league. He put up 4/47/1, 4/56 and 7/85 stat lines heading into the Super Bowl. He then watched as the Eagles’ offense and defense crushed the Chiefs.

An integral piece to the puzzle is back in Philadelphia for at least one more season.
