Eagles GM Howie Roseman tells a college player that it hurts his soul to draft him and he gets an epic response

The Philadelphia Eagles balled out in Super Bowl LIX and absolutely demolished the back-to-back NFL champions Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in front of thousands of people at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Eagles dominated on both sides of the field, recording six sacks against superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and erasing offensive juggernatus like tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Xavier Worthy until late in the game.

One of the key pieces of Philadelphia – off the field – was general manager Howie Roseman, who built a great team based on good draft picks, smart trading moves like acquiring stud running back Saquon Barkley, who had the best season of his career.

Eagles GM tells a player that he’s hurt by drafting him

A video of the Philadelphia Eagles 2023 NFL Draft night resurfaced after the Super Bowl and in the images we can see general manager Howie Roseman talking to a then recently selected player, Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Nolan Smith Jr.

“How you doing, brother? You know, I’m a Florida Gator. Do you know how much this hurts my soul to take all these Georgia Bulldogs, you know?” Roseman said, as he felt bad about not being totally down with his alma mater.

“You want to win, though. You want to win.” Smith Jr. responded, which made the Eagles general manager laugh and agreeing with the Bulldog. “You’re right. I do want to win more than you know. I like that confetti. Hey, congratulations, man. You’re coming to Philly.” Roseman added.

The general manager is a very proud Florida Gator. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UF as a member of the class of ’97, three years before starting his first job with the Eagles as a salary cap consultant. Roseman worked his way up the ranks before becoming the youngest general manager of an NFL team, taking over the Eagles front office operations in 2010.

Since then he has led the Eagles to three Super Bowl apperances, winning it all in 2018 and 2025 (LII, LIX). The 49-year-old has also been named NFL executive of the year twice, just the fourth GM to win the prestigious award multiple times.

The future is bright for the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions for the second time in franchise history. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was sensational again on the game’s biggest stage. The defense was downright dominant in limiting Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense.

The Eagles thwarted Kansas City‘s bid for a three-peat, exacting revenge for the Super Bowl loss two years ago in spectacular fashion. The defense destroyed the Chiefs offensive line and recorded six sacks against Patrick Mahomes, who looked confused and lost at times.

With the team’s core coming back for the 2025 season, Philadelphia‘s most likely to be the team to beat in the NFC and the rest of the NFL will have to play catch up to the Super Bowl LIX champions. It’s early to say, however, the Eagles will start next season as the clear favorites to win it all again.
