Dwyane Wade hails Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama: ‘Alien-like’ performance in 2025

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has captivated basketball fans and analysts alike thanks to his growing reputation as one of the game’s most unique talents.

This year, his impact has stretched beyond box scores and into conversations about generational greatness, and not least from one of the NBA’s most decorated players.

At just 21 years old, Wembanyama has already lived through extraordinary highs and a serious medical scare early in his career, yet has mounted a powerful resurgence this season.

After being named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2024 and dealing with deep vein thrombosis that cut short much of his 2024-25 campaign, the French talent has returned with force in 2025-26.

During a recent episode of the Wy Network podcast, 13-time AllStar Dwyane Wade shared high praise for Wembanyama‘s performance this season, offering insight that goes beyond typical compliments.

“What you see from him is that same mystique an alien has. You don’t know what he’s gonna do, man. The buzz in the arena is there when he’s out there, like it’s a different buzz that he has when you’re watching somebody who’s a 1 of 1. An incredible basketball player. He has everything,” Wade said.

Wade‘s remarks highlight what many around the league are beginning to acknowledge: a rare blend of size, skill, and unpredictability that’s changing how teams prepare defensively and sparking comparisons rarely heard so early in a player’s career.

Wembanyama‘s statistical output backs up those sentiments. Through 20 games this season, he’s averaging solid doubledouble numbers, combining scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and rim protection, a multifaceted skill set that makes him difficult to categorize.

Off the court, his presence has reverberated throughout the Spurs organization and fan base alike.

San Antonio‘s rise up the Western Conference standings and return to national spotlight games reflect a team that’s no longer in rebuilding mode but threatening to be a contender. This shift is not accidental.

With Wembanyama as the centerpiece, the Spurs have climbed into the top tier of the conference, drawing increased television coverage and reshaping longheld perceptions about the franchise.

Proving impact beyond traditional stats

Wembanyama‘s influence isn’t confined to scoring and rebounds. His defensive prowess anchors the Spurs‘ schemes, opponents hesitate to attack the rim when he’s patrolling the paint, and his ability to handle the ball and create offense brings a versatility rarely seen from a 7-foot-plus center.

That unique profile has sparked MVP discussions in some corners of the media and analytics world, where his performance is evaluated not just within positional norms but against the league’s elite.

Teammates and coaches have noticed the intangible effects of his game as well.

Leadership in the locker room, a stronger team identity, and even fan engagement have all trended upward alongside Wembanyama‘s breakout performances, as illustrated by spirited postgame celebrations launched by the Spurs‘ fan groups.
