Drunk gambler threatened to kill Lance McCullers’ 5-year-old daughter after Astros’ loss to Reds

After the painful defeat of the Houston Astros against the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 13-9, Lance McCullers has been singled out as the main culprit and has been the subject of multiple threats.

Lance McCullers Jr. received death threats against his family, through social networks, for which he hired professionals for their protection, in addition to filing a complaint with the Houston Police Department.

Likewise, the owner of the Astros, Jim Crane, hired full-time security for McCullers’ family, consisting of his wife, Kara, and their two daughters. Coach Joe Espada also expressed his displeasure with this delicate situation:

“It’s very unfortunate that we have to deal with this, after everything he’s done for this city, for this team,” said Espada.

Author of death threats to McCullers family identified

Now, Chandler Rome, a journalist for the Astros, has revealed that the criminal has been identified. And according to the Houston Police Department, it is a drunken gambler located overseas.

After being identified, the fan has admitted the accusations and even apologized for his behavior, according to reports. However, the case remains open while charges are being considered

What happened to Lance McCullers?

The poor performance of McCullers was seriously criticized, as he allowed seven runs in the first inning. However, this is only his second game after his long absence due to an arm injury, which kept him away from the field for almost two and a half years.

McCullers has issued statements on the matter, saying that while he understands the passion of fans, threats are simply unacceptable:

“I understand that people are very passionate and love the Astros and love sports, but threatening to find my children and murder them is a little bit hard to handle.”

He also mentions that even his five-year-old daughter heard his wife, Kara, talking on the phone about the threats, “When I got home, she asked me: ‘Daddy, what are threats? Who wants to hurt us? Who wants to hurt me?‘” McCullers points out

This is a topic that has seriously concerned the authorities, who have begun to collaborate with companies specializing in monitoring betting markets and detecting threatening messages directed at athletes on social networks. However, investigations that lead to criminal sanctions for this type of threat are still scarce. In the meantime, we will have to wait and see if the threat to McCullers‘ family has legal repercussions for the person responsible.
