Kevin Durant‘s stint with the Golden State Warriors was one of the most succesful moves in NBA‘s history: during his three years with the Bay Area team, the former Texas Longhorns standout won two championships and played another finals before suffering a torn Achilles in 2019.
Durant, alongside shooters Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, was part of one of the most dominant teams in the league’s history. He also made some great friends, such as fiery defender Draymond Green.
It is well known that Green was a major part of the Durant trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Warriors, especially after Golden State lost the 2016 NBA Finals to LeBron James,Kyrie Irving and the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the only team to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the championship series.
Draymond reveals he stole something from Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant was the latest guest at The Draymond Green show hosted by the Golden State Warriors forward and former NBA player Baron Davis, and during a moment of the conversation, Green addressed something that KD was unaware of: he owns a piece of history made by Kevin.
“I got a secret I’m gonna tell you, but if I tell you this secret., you gotta promise to just know that is my secret and you can’t do nothing about it. I got the ball from when you broke the US scoring record.” said Green. On August 2024 during the Paris Olympic Games, Kevin Durant became the career leader in points for the U.S. in Olympic competition.
The Phoenix Suns superstar is also the first men’s player in Olympic history with four golds after being part of the U.S. teams that won titles at London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. It’s fair so say that KD is the most accomplished American basketball player when it comes to international competition.
When Durant asked Green why does he have the ball that he made history with, the Warriors forward answered that he kept the ball aftter the game where Kevin made history – against Brazil -. According to Draymond, he gave the basketball to his former teammate but the shooter forget about it and left it on the bench.
“I got the ball, I just need your signature on it, brother, and then I can go sell it.” Green joked, to which Durant replied that the piece of history is safe under his former teammate’s watch.
Durant is an historicy player
Kevin Durant is second on the list of best regular season scorers of all time – amongst active players -, with 30,163 points, just behind LeBron James and his 41,792 points. KD is eight overall on the list that includes inactive players. He gets to share that list with legendary names suchs as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.
He’s one of only five U.S. players with at least 300 points in Olympic competition, joining Leslie, WNBA career scoring leader Diana Taurasi (416 entering the U.S. women’s quarterfinal game Wednesday), the retired Carmelo Anthony (336) and James.
“He’s one of the most efficient players that ever played this game,” U.S. teammate – and Phoenix Suns teammate – Devin Booker said of Durant. Kevin’s also the U.S. career men’s leader in rebounds in Olympic play.. He secured that record in the group-stage finale Saturday against Puerto Rico, his four rebounds in that game allowing him to pass both Anthony (125) and David Robinson (124) for the top spot there.
