Draymond Green talks about Steve Kerr’s wild temper when he’s angry: ‘He broke it and cut his hand’

As the Golden State Warriors try to stay competitive in a deep Western Conference, questions about the team’s roster continue to surface. While some believe changes are necessary, head coach Steve Kerr remains focused on maximizing his current NBA squad.

“I think this group, we know we’re capable. What we saw early in the year, that was not a mirage,” Kerr said after a recent victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite his belief in the team, Kerr is no stranger to frustration when things don’t go as planned. His typically calm demeanor occasionally gives way to outbursts of intensity-something Draymond Green and other veterans have witnessed firsthand.

Draymond Green recently returned to action after serving a suspension, and he immediately noticed Kerr’s fire during games. Recalling one particular incident, Green described how Kerr reacted to the team’s poor play by breaking a clipboard in frustration.

“He broke it in a timeout, he started yelling at us, and Steve punches the clipboard. One time, I saw him do it before and he cut his hand open. But Steve used to break clipboards all the time on us, man,” Green shared on The Draymond Green Show.

Even Stephen Curry, who has been with Kerr for nearly a decade, reacted with humor when the coach’s temper flared once again.

“Steph said, ‘Well, it only took him 49 games to break a clipboard,'” Green recounted.

Although Kerr is known for his measured approach, his passion for winning sometimes boils over. Green admitted that, earlier in his career, he struggled to understand Kerr’s competitive nature-a mindset that once led to a well-documented clash with Michael Jordan during their playing days.

“We used to bump heads because I didn’t understand his fire, and he didn’t quite understand mine. What we ended up realizing is that we have the same fire, and it clashed,” Green said.

“Once we learned that, there was no problem… he has an incredible amount of fire inside. He does a great job of channeling it, but when it comes out, it comes out.”

Warriors Face Critical Roster Decisions

While Kerr still believes in his squad, he acknowledges that the team lacks the firepower to dominate in the Western Conference.

“We’ve also shown that we don’t have enough to separate ourselves from the rest of the West… we’re not in a position where we can just say, ‘No, we’re good, let’s stand pat,'” Kerr admitted.

Despite the speculation, the Warriors front office has yet to make a move, with key figures like Kerr, Curry, and Green emphasizing long-term stability over a quick-fix trade.

Their approach has received mixed reviews, as some fans worry that standing still could waste Curry‘s remaining prime years.

With the trade deadline approaching, reports indicate that a move could be on the horizon. If the Warriors do make a deal, Kerr‘s clipboard may remain intact-for now.

However, if struggles continue, it’s likely only a matter of time before another clipboard falls victim to his competitive fire.
