After Chicago Sky‘s demoralizing 79-52 defeat at home to the Indiana Fever on Saturday, Draymond Green didn’t mince words when assessing the team’s performance, particularly in light of their growing struggles early in the WNBA season.
With Caitlin Clark sidelined due to injury, the Fever came into the matchup without their star rookie, but it was Chicago that looked out of rhythm from the opening tip.
Indiana raced out to a 13-point halftime lead, and the third quarter proved disastrous for Angel Reese and her Sky teammates.
Outscored 27-11 in the frame, Chicago’s effort on both ends of the floor crumbled under pressure.
Draymond Green calls it like he sees it
After watching the Sky‘s breakdown, Draymond Green took to Threads to share his unfiltered reaction.
“The Sky play a very bad brand of basketball,” Green wrote, delivering a damning critique of the team’s strategy and execution.
His comment shows growing concern about the Sky‘s trajectory. Chicago, once a consistently competitive squad, now finds itself in a troubling early-season slump.
In stark contrast to last year, when the Sky suffered only two losses by 25 or more points across a full 40-game slate, they’ve already endured three such blowouts in their first seven games this season.
What’s even more concerning for Chicago is that two of those heavy defeats came at the hands of the same opponent: the Indiana Fever.
The first came on May 17, when the Sky were handed a 35-point humiliation. Just weeks later, they were again embarrassed by their conference rivals, this time by a 27-point margin, even without Clark on the floor.
The Sky‘s lack of offensive cohesion and defensive urgency has raised eyebrows across the league. While rookie Angel Reese has shown flashes of talent and intensity, the team around her has struggled to generate consistent ball movement, shot-making, and energy on defense. Against Indiana, those issues were magnified in every quarter.
Reese, known for her grit and passion, has embraced the spotlight in Chicago, but there’s only so much she can do on her own. The Sky’s inability to compete without falling into long scoring droughts or breakdowns on the defensive end is now drawing criticism not only from fans.
