Drake Maye, quarterback of the New England Patriots, was blunt and questioned a topic regarding NFL MVP Josh Allen

Since the departure of Tom Brady, the New England Patriots have had a very difficult gap to fill – one that may never be truly filled. We’re talking about the greatest player in NFL history, winner of seven Super Bowl rings, six of them with the Patriots franchise and the last one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But life goes on, and the New England Patriots know it. After Tom Brady, several quarterbacks have passed through, including Cam Newton – who started off well but fizzled out – and Mac Jones, a first-round pick in 2022 who made the playoffs in his rookie year but eventually collapsed. Now, the reins are in the hands of Drake Maye.

In his rookie season, Drake Maye began on the bench, but after the first month, he took over as the starter. And for a rookie on a team with very little talent around him, he put up solid numbers: 2,276 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a promising future.

Drake Maye downplayed comparisons to Josh Allen

Many NFL analysts have compared Drake Maye’s playing style to Josh Allen’s. Both play in the AFC East division, so they will face off twice a year. However, Allen is already an established star, while Maye still has to build his career – though it seems he’s on the right track.

There’s no doubt that Drake Maye will be one of the quarterbacks under the microscope, especially now that he has Stefon Diggs – a great receiver who had some brilliant moments, coincidentally, with Allen on the Bills. Regarding the comparisons with Josh Allen, the North Carolina product had this to say:

“You know he’s the MVP. I think those comparisons… I’ve still got a lot of work to do to even be in the same stratosphere or atmosphere as Josh,” said Maye.

Drake Maye and the Patriots could pose a challenge to the Bills – they already did so last season – so this could be an interesting rivalry, especially now that the Patriots are starting a new era under head coach Mike Vrabel, who had some good moments with the Titans.
