After battling through plenty of adversity, the New England Patriots are back in the AFC Championship Game for the first time since 2018, following their win over the Houston Texans. Despite Houston’s strong defense, a poor performance from quarterback C.J. Stroud ultimately proved costly. Now, the Patriots will travel to Denver to face the Broncos, who will be led by Jarrett Stidham.
The Patriots’ defense completely overwhelmed C.J. Stroud, who delivered one of the worst playoff performances by a quarterback in postseason history. The former Ohio State standout committed five turnovers, four of them interceptions, most of which came on poorly thrown passes. Even so, New England struggled at times against the league’s top-ranked defense.
The Houston Texans and their impressive defense forced three turnovers from the Patriots and consistently pressured Drake Maye. However, the New England quarterback stepped up when it mattered most, throwing three touchdown passes to put his team just one win away from the Super Bowl.
Bo Nix injured, Drake Maye sends emotional message
Following the Denver Broncos’ dramatic overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills, everything pointed to celebration for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Minutes later, devastating news arrived: Bo Nix suffered a fracture to his right ankle. The injury occurred in overtime after a quarterback scramble and later on a kneel-down play.
This Sunday, it was confirmed that the Broncos will host the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Drake Maye showed class and professionalism by sending a supportive message to Bo Nix, who is clearly going through a difficult moment: “Praying for Bo. I know he’s gonna bounce back. He’s a great player in this league,” said the Patriots quarterback.
As a result, Bo Nix is out for the remainder of the playoffs, and Jarrett Stidham will start next Sunday against the Patriots. Ironically, the Auburn product was selected by New England in the 2019 NFL Draft, taken in the fourth round with the 133rd overall pick. Now, he will face his former team in the most important game of his career.
That is how things unfold in the NFL. With Bo Nix sidelined, the Patriots enter the game as heavy favorites. Despite playing on the road, New England is favored by 5.5 points in betting markets, and unless a major upset occurs, the Patriots appear poised to return to the Super Bowl.
