While the Indianapolis Colts are stealing the spotlight with their impressive 6-1 start, leading the AFC, there’s another surprising team: the New England Patriots, who have also had a great campaign, leading the AFC East with a 5-2 record-above the Buffalo Bills, whom they already defeated earlier this season.
There’s no doubt that one of the biggest revelations has been Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. In his second year, he’s playing at an extremely high level and has clearly become the man of the future for New England. So far, the former North Carolina standout has 1,744 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions.
The Patriots are seriously on track for the playoffs. While the Bills were the heavy favorites to win the AFC East, it looks like the Patriots won’t make it easy-and they already took the first battle under head coach Mike Vrabel.
Drake Maye Sends a Message to Myles Garrett
This week, the Patriots will host the Cleveland Browns. Although on paper the game seems uneven, the Browns have several talented defensive players who could give New England’s offense-and especially Drake Maye-some trouble. One of them is Myles Garrett, one of the best defenders in the NFL.
Garrett is an absolute monster. So far this season, he’s recorded 25 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. Now, his eyes are set on taking down Drake Maye, who’s ready for the challenge this Sunday.
“He’s one of the best players in the league,” Maye said at a press conference. “He’s somebody you’ve got to know where he’s at. A lot of credit to him. He plays hard, he’s disruptive, and he’s good in the run game and the pass game. It’s going to be a tough challenge.”
The Patriots enter the game as 7-point favorites, but it could be tougher than expected, as the Browns are coming off a win over the Miami Dolphins-where they intercepted Tua Tagovailoa three times. Drake Maye will need to stay sharp.
