There is no doubt that Donald Trump wants to be remembered, among other things, as the person who unified golf. He is passionate about the sport and it seems that the agreement between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Wealth Fund (PIF) has become a matter of state for him. This is evident, as he has even imposed his mediation, which is actually positive to speed up the process.

Yesterday, a PGA Tour delegation consisting of Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Commissioner Jay Monahan met with President Trump at the White House. It was not just any meeting, as the governor of the PIF, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, also attended. In short, one of the people who is revolutionizing world markets in different sectors and right-hand man of the Saudi monarch Mohammed bin Salman. He is also another golf enthusiast.

After the session, the PGA Tour issued a joint statement from Monahan, Woods and Scott: “We have just concluded a constructive working session at the White House with President Trump and His Excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we have begun a discussion about the reunification of golf. We are committed to moving forward as quickly as possible and will share more details as necessary. We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world to play together more often and we are committed to doing everything we can to deliver that to our fans”.

After the meeting, and taking advantage of Woods’ presence at the White House, he appeared with Trump at a reception for Black History Month. The president even asked Tiger to speak, despite the shyness he showed. Perhaps all this took the 15-time major winner by surprise. Those in the room, including Trump, cheered the golfer to say a few words to the crowd. The president even ventured to say beforehand: “I was playing with him last week. I think he’s got a couple of majors left… maybe a little more”. Regarding the golf meeting, Trump only commented: “We had some interesting conversations”.
