Florida’s Gulf Coast has been devastated in recent days as tropical storm Helene has wreaked havoc in the region. Among the many affected is golfing legend John Daly, whose Florida home was destroyed
In this difficult time, former US president and Republican candidate for November’s elections, Donald Trump, welcomed Daly as a guest of his at the college football game between Alabama and Georgia game on Saturday.
Daly could be seen inside the private box in which Trump was attending the game, as huge cheers were greeted with the image of the presidential hopeful appeared on the big screen inside the Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Trump is well-known as an avid golf fan and, despite the image of him often presented of him in the press, is often quick to help out those in need or in desperate times, with his treatment and hospitality of Daly another clear sign of this.
Daly was greatly affected by the destruction of his home, and warned those in the area to depart as the storm was approaching.
“Prayers for all those in the path of the big bend. God Bless and Everyone Please Be Safe during Hurricane Helene!” wrote Daly on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Augusta National suffers damage
The Augusta National golf club has also stated that it has greatly suffered from the Category 4 storm that rolled through the area.
The famous golf club released a statement, highlighting that it had suffered “catastrophic” damage and that the situation will be assessed.
“Our Augusta community has suffered catastrophic and historic impact from Hurricane Helene. We currently are assessing the effects at Augusta National Golf Club,” wrote club Chairman Fred Ridley.
“In the meantime, our focus and efforts are foremost with our staff, neighbors and business owners in Augusta. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as well as everyone throughout Georgia and the Southeast who have been affected.”
