Donald Trump will have another reason to congratulate himself in the coming weeks: the golfing world will reach an agreement after more than two years of fracture.
This is how it should be understood after the PGA Tour, the most hostile party, issued a statement thanking the US president for his involvement and signed by none other than commissioner Jay Monahan, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, two heavyweights of the players in the negotiations. The Australian, the leader and Trump met last Tuesday at the White House.
“We know that golf fans are eagerly awaiting a resolution to the negotiations with the PIF and we want to thank President Trump for his interest and support of golf. We asked the president to get involved for the good of golf, the good of the country and all the countries involved. We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final agreement, paving the way for reunification.”
The announcement seems very close, but it will all depend on the pronouncement of the Department of Justice, which is investigating the preliminary agreement reached in June 2023 because it could violate the antitrust policy in force in the United States. This is a set of laws and regulations designed to promote competition and prevent monopolies or business practices that restrict the free market and prevent a company from dominating a sector in an abusive manner.
