Donald Trump announces decision on if he will attend US Open final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

After a decade long absence since being loudly booed during a 2015 match, Donald Trump will return to Arthur Ashe Stadium for the 2025 US Open final. But this isn’t an invitation from the tournament, he’ll be courtside as a guest of Rolex, a move slearly tied to diplomatic interests involving Swiss tariffs.

In anticipation, the USTA has instructed broadcasters to avoid airing any crowd reactions and heightened security protocols are in place. Meanwhile, both finalists are keeping cool headed amid the political drama.

Trump’s US Open return

Trump’s attendance didn’t stem from USTA decision makers, but from Rolex, longtime sponsor of stars like Alcaraz and Sinner. Reportedly, it aims to influence the president on high tariffs facing Swiss imports.

Tournament officials have preemptively asked broadcasters: no showing boos or disruptions during the anthem or his appearance. Additionally, security has been ramped up at Arthur Ashe, with increased screenings and stricter credentialing to manage the high-profile visit.

Alcaraz reacts to news

When asked post semifinal whether Trump’s presence affects him, Carlos Alcaraz replied with visible pose:

It’s a privilege for the tournament to have the president…I will try not to think about it. I don’t want myself to be nervous. But it’s great for tennis

Jannik Sinner, too, is expected to stay laser focused on his goal, defending his title and avenging earlier defeats.
