Dolphins strengthen squad with Tutu Atwell and Marco Wilson signings

Late Thursday afternoon brought a pair of quiet roster additions in Miami as the team continued shaping its depth chart ahead of the 2026 season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that the Dolphins have agreed to terms with wide receiver Tutu Atwell and cornerback Marco Wilson.

The signings represent a low-risk move for a team looking to strengthen both sides of the ball during the early stages of free agency. Neither deal is expected to dramatically reshape the Dolphins‘ roster, but both players provide useful depth and experience as the team continues evaluating its options for the upcoming season.

Atwell arrives in Miami after spending the first five seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Rams. The speedy receiver was originally selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, a pick that reflected the Rams‘ belief in his ability to stretch the field and create explosive plays.

However, Atwell‘s role in Los Angeles fluctuated during his time with the organization. Injuries and competition at the position limited his overall production, particularly in the 2025 season. He appeared in 10 games last year but recorded only six receptions for 192 yards and one touchdown.

Despite that modest output, Atwell‘s career totals show flashes of his potential.

Across 64 career games, including 27 starts, he has registered 105 catches for 1,535 yards and five touchdowns. His speed has consistently made him a deep-threat option when utilized within the offense.

For Miami, adding a player with Atwell‘s skill set could provide additional flexibility in the passing game. The Dolphins have prioritized speed in recent seasons, and Atwell‘s ability to create separation downfield fits that broader offensive philosophy.

Dolphins continue building roster depth in free agency

The Dolphins also addressed their secondary by agreeing to terms with Wilson, a defensive back who brings experience across multiple teams. Like Atwell, Wilson entered the league in the 2021 draft, selected in the fourth round.

Wilson most recently spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in four games during the 2025 season. While his role was limited last year, his broader career résumé includes consistent contributions in coverage.

Wilson has played in 64 career games since entering the league and has recorded 20 passes defended along with three interceptions. His experience in multiple defensive schemes could help the Dolphins add competition in their defensive backfield heading into training camp.

Depth in the secondary remains a priority for many teams across the league, especially as offenses continue to rely heavily on pass-heavy systems. Bringing in a player like Wilson gives Miami additional options in sub-packages and special teams.

For both players, the move to Miami represents an opportunity to carve out a more defined role. Free agency often presents second chances for players who may not have reached their full potential with their previous teams, and both Atwell and Wilson fit that category.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, have taken a measured approach during the opening wave of the market. Rather than pursuing only headline-making acquisitions, the organization has focused on identifying players who can strengthen depth and compete for rotational roles.

Looking ahead, the Dolphins will continue evaluating their roster as free agency unfolds and the 2026 NFL Draft approaches.

While neither signing is likely to dominate headlines, both additions could play meaningful roles as the team prepares for training camp and the competition that comes with it.
