Dolphins cut Tyreek Hill: Stephen A. Smith wonders where the star WR will land

The NFL world was shaken on Monday when the Miami Dolphins officially released All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, a move that immediately had fans and analysts scrambling to figure out the implications for both Hill and the league at large.

After four productive seasons in South Florida, the eight-time Pro Bowler is now an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career – a stunning development that arrives amid a broader Dolphins roster overhaul aimed at freeing salary cap space.

Hill‘s departure from Miami comes as part of a major financial reset. The Dolphins also cut several other highprofile veterans, including edge rusher Bradley Chubb, guard James Daniels, and receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

These moves are designed to alleviate cap pressure ahead of the 2026 campaign, giving Miami the flexibility to restructure contracts or pursue other talent.

By releasing Hill, the Dolphins are projected to save roughly $22-23 million against the salary cap, even though the move leaves lingering questions about how they will replace one of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons.

Timing also plays a role in the decision. Hill suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2025, involving a dislocated knee and torn ACL, which sidelined him for the final months of the season.

While the severity of the injury has caused some concern among prospective teams, Hill has expressed confidence in his recovery, and multiple franchises are already weighing the risk versus reward of signing a player of his caliber.

Hill‘s speed, route-running, and playmaking ability make him a rare talent, and many believe he can return to elite form despite the setback.

Where could Tyreek Hill land next?

Speculation is already rampant about which team could acquire Hill. On ESPN’s First Take, veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith suggested three franchises as ideal fits: the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills, and the Baltimore Ravens.

A return to Kansas City seems the most natural. Hill spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Chiefs, forming a formidable connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and helping the team secure a Super Bowl title.

That history of success and familiarity with the system makes a homecoming particularly appealing, especially if the Chiefs are aiming to restore their high-octane passing attack.

The Bills and Ravens, while more speculative, also present intriguing possibilities. Buffalo has struggled to identify a consistent No. 1 wide receiver, and Hill could immediately elevate the passing game alongside Josh Allen.

Baltimore, meanwhile, seeks additional weapons for Lamar Jackson, and Hill‘s game-breaking speed would give the Ravens a significant advantage in vertical passing situations. Smith‘s selections underscore both the tactical need and Hill‘s enduring ability to alter games even after a serious injury.

As free agency begins, Tyreek Hill’s next destination promises to be one of the NFL’s most compelling offseason storylines.

Whether returning to a former champion, pushing a contender closer to a title, or charting a new path elsewhere, Hill remains one of the most electrifying talents available – and his next move could reshape the landscape of the league.
