If there’s one thing that many baseball players believe in, it’s the luck of the draw, especially if something works for them and they do well, both in batting, defense and pitching.
Superstition in baseball history ranges from the time they go to sleep, wake up, what they eat on game day to the clothes they wear, even not washing them, regardless of the player’s country of origin, such as the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
A new hair color
Yoshinobu Yamamoto spoke to the media just hours before Game 1 in Milwaukee, and he was sporting a new hair color. Naturally, he was asked about the obvious style change. “Thank you for the question. It’s not really a topic we talk about here, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about it, because last time my hair was a little shiny,” Yamamoto told reporters Monday. “So I just went and dyed it a little darker.”
Yamamoto was also asked if the change in hair color was a response to his last outing, where he allowed three earned runs on six hits in four innings of work against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Dodgers had a chance to sweep the Phillies with Yamamoto on the mound, but the defending champions could not get it done in Game 3. “In the last outing, my stuff wasn’t initially that bad. Because I allowed contact again, breaking through the gap, because everything wasn’t that bad in terms of hitting, making contact, giving contact,” Yamamoto said. “So I think I’d like to focus more on the fundamental part of pitching, like location and those things.”
Could his last outing be the reason for Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s hair change?
The right-handed pitcher responded, “It wasn’t the reason, but I hope this helps things go my way.”
