Dodgers player undergoes procedure on his buttocks just days before World Series

With just a few days to go before the 2025 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing an unexpected situation in their bullpen with Tanner Scott, one of the highest-paid relievers, who underwent a surgical procedure in the gluteal area, putting his availability for the Fall Classic in doubt. Although the team had originally included him in the group for the Wild Card Round, his medical situation forced him to miss the Division Series.

Tanner Scott, who signed a $72 million, four-year contract as the defending champions, has had a very disappointing season with a 4.74 ERA and leading the majors with 10 blown saves. His absence has been felt in the bullpen, although his recent performance has left doubts about whether his return would really be a reinforcement or his place has been earned by Roki Sasaki.

Tanner Scott underwent surgery for an abscess: How serious is the Dodgers reliever’s injury?

The injury was described by manager Dave Roberts as a “lower body procedure”, but it was later revealed to be an abscess in the buttocks area. New York Post journalist Jon Heyman gave more details about it:

The Dodgers are calling closer Tanner Scott’s injury a lower-body injury, and let’s just say he’s hoping to put it behind him (a hint there)

Although Scott himself described the problem as an infection, team staff mentioned that it was a cyst. According to reports, it was an emergency surgery that left him out of the NLCS and prevented him from participating in the early stages of the postseason.
