It will be a very familiar opponent for the Los Angeles Dodgers when they face the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series, after the friars swept the Atlanta Braves and in what way. 5 to 4 was the final score of the second game of the Wild Card Series.
The Braves took a first inning lead, but a five-run rally in the second gave the Padres a lead that they never relinquished. Kyle Higashioka hit a home run for a second straight night to tie the ballgame and Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill batted in a couple each for a 5-1 lead.
The Braves creeped back into this one after a Jorge Soler solo-shot in the fifth and a two-run dinger by Michael Harris II with a man on base. It was a close game heading into the ninth inning.
Padres seal it but with a man down
In the bottom of the ninth inning, closer Robert Suárez came in and he retired the side in order to secure the victory, the series and the ticket to the next round. Now preparations for the Division Series will begin.
However the Padres might be shorthanded to face the Dodgers to begin this new stage in the postseason starting Saturday at Dodger Stadium. Starting pitcher Joe Musgrove left the game early, one that he was dominating.
Musgrove could finish out the fourth inning after experiencing discomfort in his right arm and had to leave the game with just 3 and two-thirds innings of work; he had 44 pitches, 32 strikes.
