The Dodger Stadium experienced an intense night with the victory of the Dodgers with a score of 6-5 against the Blue Jays in Game 3 of the World Series. It was a night when everything was good news in Los Angeles, including the possible loss of George Springer, as it not only means a sensitive loss for the rival team, but also one with feelings of revenge for the Angeleno fans.George Springer’s injury, a well-known and hated enemy of the Los Angeles fans, caused applause and boos that sparked controversy on and off the diamond.

Why did Dodgers fans celebrate George Springer’s injury?

The seventh inning of Game 3 left a dramatic scene for Blue Jays fans as George Springer faced pitcher Justin Wrobleski, fouled off a pitch and immediately showed signs of pain in his right side. As he called for medical assistance and left the game, Dodger Stadium erupted in applause.

The gesture did not go unnoticed by Joe Davis, the Dodgers’ lead play-by-play announcer, who disapproved of the fans’ reaction, calling it unsportsmanlike.

That should never be celebrated, under any circumstances, no matter the history

The history between the Dodgers fans and George Springer dates back to 2017, when Springer was one of the stars of the Houston Astros, the team involved in the sign-stealing scandal that tainted the World Series won against the Dodgers

Since then, every appearance by the gardener in Los Angeles has been accompanied by boos from the Angeleno fans.

An injury that could change the World Series

This injury comes at the worst time, as Springer was coming off an excellent postseason, with an .932 OPS and four home runs, reaffirming his role as one of the most important pieces for the Blue Jays.

Beyond the controversy in the stands, George Springer’s injury left the Toronto Blue Jays in a difficult situation. The 36-year-old right fielder left the game with discomfort in his right side and was taken to the clubhouse for medical tests.

Manager John Schneider confirmed his concern after the game, stating that the player would be evaluated day by day. With the series 2-1 in favor of Los Angeles, losing their offensive leader would be a hard blow for the Canadian team’s aspirations.

George Springer is once again the protagonist of a story that shows that Major League Baseball is lived with passion and that the fan does not forgive or forget easily, and that sometimes fair play is put aside if the fan believes that it is justified, creating a huge debate about it.
