The Los Angeles Dodgers are going through one of their worst stretches in the last decade. Of the four series played, they have won only one. This weekend they were totally swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, who a few weeks ago beat them on the road and now have given them the same treatment at Dodger Stadium. They have won only two of their last 12 games and Mookie Betts is posting terrible numbers in his time at the plate.
The statistics don’t lie: his batting average is .240, he has only hit nine home runs, has driven in 45 runs and has only stolen six bases. In combination with these numbers, Mookie Betts’ OPS is .684, one of his worst figures during his professional career in Major League Baseball. However, to make the Dodgers shortstop’s situation worse, his numbers have been compared to a player who has been criticized for his performance, … and yet he has better numbers than Mookie.
Mookie Betts is criticized for having worse numbers than a low-performing player
In the New York Yankees’ lineup, Anthony Volpe is one of the players who has received the most criticism for poor defensive and batting performance. Even so, he can boast that his performance is superior to that of Mookie Betts, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ star who arrived in California with one of the most lucrative contracts in MLB.
After Mookie’s numbers were revealed, they compared his performance to that of the New York player, who has a batting average of .216, with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs with 10 stolen bases and an OPS of .686. Of course, these are not numbers to brag about, but they are much better than those of the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop.
Los Angeles Dodgers upcoming games
After having been the team with the best record in the National League and second in MLB, as well as having an eight-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the National League West, they have now dropped in numbers and are only 3.5 games behind their Southern California rival.
The situation will not improve in the short term for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will host the Minnesota Twins, while on Friday they will travel from coast to coast to visit Fenway Park and face the Boston Red Sox.
