Dodgers call up Ice Cube for outlandish World Series trophy tribute on Opening Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their 2024 World Series triumph with a star-studded Opening Day ceremony at Dodger Stadium, kicking off their new season in spectacular fashion. The team’s return to the field to face the Detroit Tigers was marked by a blend of Hollywood flair, sports legends, and nostalgic pride as fans relived the moments that led to their championship win over the New York Yankees.

Leading the festivities was rapper and LA icon Ice Cube, who reprised his role as the Dodgers’ good luck charm. Driving a classic blue Chevy around the field’s perimeter, Ice Cube delivered the World Series trophy in style. His presence harkened back to Game 2 of the 2024 World Series, where his dynamic performance, including hits like “Bow Down” and “It Was a Good Day” with lyrics dedicated to the late Lakers star Kobe Bryant, helped energize both the team and fans.

Dodger Stadium also welcomed sports icons Magic Johnson and Billie Jean King, both members of the Dodgers’ ownership group, who joined in raising the World Championship banner. The moment was shared with an enthusiastic crowd, including celebrity fans such as actor Rob Lowe, as the team prepared to take the field.

It was a party in Hollywood

Walking down a blue carpet from center field, Dodgers players were greeted by an instrumental rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us,” symbolizing the city’s pride and excitement. The Dodgers’ star-studded celebrations underscored the memories of their World Series triumph.

During the 2024 championship run, Ice Cube’s pre-game performance set the tone for Game 2, with Dodgers utility player Kiké Hernández humorously declaring afterward that the team had “already won” thanks to the rapper’s high-energy appearance. While the Yankees attempted to counter with a Game 3 performance by East Coast rapper Fat Joe, it was the Dodgers who ultimately claimed victory in the series.

As the Dodgers begin their quest to defend their title, the Opening Day festivities captured the spirit of a city rallying around its team. With their World Series triumph still fresh, fans and players alike are optimistic about the challenges and opportunities of the 2025 season. Ice Cube’s encore appearance, alongside sports legends and celebrity supporters, ensured that the day was as much about honoring the past as it was about looking forward to the future.
