The fight between Dmitry Bivol and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was one of the most controversial bouts of the present decade. Almost two years later, a resurfaced video of that fight sparked speculation among fans, who wonder if Bivol is prepared to face Artur Betervieb, an opponent with more punching power than Canelo.
The Bivol-Alvarez fight sparked great interest among the media and fans. Bivol arrived as the WBA champion, while Canelo held the WBC, WBO, and IBF belts. The fight went the scheduled 12 rounds, and Bivol was declared the winner by unanimous decision.
Despite the three judges giving Bivol the win with identical scores of 115-113, Alvarez claimed that he had come into the fight with a wrist injury. This injury limited his punching ability and punching power, so he asked for a rematch.
The rematch never materialized, and both fighters went on to their respective careers. Now, Bivol will face Betervieb to crown the first undisputed light heavyweight champion in 25 years. However, the video of the fight against Canelo caused concern among Bivol’s followers, who compared him to Betervieb’s power.
The controversial video
In the nine-second clip that the “Boxing n BBQ” account published on X (formerly Twitter), Canelo lands two powerful blows on Bivol, an uppercut to the jaw and a left hook to the body. The account accompanied the footage with the message, “Can Bivol take these shots from Beterbiev? 20-0 20 KOs should be interesting.”
Although Bivol looked relatively unscathed after both punches, Boxing n BBQ did not fail to note that Beterbievhas knocked out all of his opponents. Fans quickly weighed in, with many saying that Beterbiev has more punching power than Alvarez. Others noted that Artur is slower than Canelo and will not catch his rival so easily.
Another pointed to Canelo’s injury in that fight by saying, “Tough. Canelo had hand/wrist injuries during that fight. Beterbiev will be healthy.” “Not that left to the body,” and “Beterbiev uppercuts are nasty. I don’t think so, fam,” two others highlighted, alluding to the punches seen in the video.
Bivol’s counterattacks
Boxing n BBQ showed another video from the same fight, showing one of Bivol’s accurate counterattacks against Canelo. The account asked, “Does Beterbiev get caught with these counters when he is on the attack against Bivol?”
The video divided fans. Some ruled out Bivol would be able to land his counterattacks on Beterbiev, while others considered he lacks the power to make a dent in the heavyweight champion. Still, others highlighted the difference between the styles of Canelo and Beterbiev, anticipating a completely different development of the fight.
Dmitry Bivol-Artur Beterbiev is scheduled for October 12 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Both rivals will arrive in full strength and ready to answer any questions from the media and fans.
