Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel has wasted no time in responding to the latest quarterback decision from head coach Kevin Stefanski.
After the Browns announced they would be going with veteran Joe Flacco as their primary backup and giving Shedeur Sanders increased reps with the starters, Gabriel decided to take his development into his own hands.
Gabriel, who was selected late in the 2025 NFL Draft, was seen organizing his own practice sessions outside of the team’s regular schedule. The young quarterback shared footage on social media, throwing passes to a group of local receivers at a high school field in Ohio. “I’m going to stay ready and keep working,” Gabriel said in a video posted to his Instagram stories. “No matter what the situation is, my job is to improve every day.”
This proactive attitude comes after head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear that the Browns’ quarterback competition is intense and that every snap counts. “We’re going to do what gives us the best chance to win,” Stefanski told reporters earlier in the week, while also emphasizing that the door is not closed for any of the young quarterbacks on the roster.
Gabriel determined to prove himself in Cleveland
For Gabriel, this offseason is about proving he can compete at the NFL level, even if he is not at the top of the depth chart. His decision to arrange extra practice sessions is a clear message to the Browns’ coaching staff that he is willing to put in the extra work and that he will be prepared if called upon during the season.
Teammates have reportedly taken notice of Gabriel’s work ethic, with several younger players joining his private throwing sessions. While the Browns’ quarterback situation remains unsettled heading into training camp, Gabriel’s response demonstrates his focus and commitment to his craft.
With the NFL preseason approaching, all eyes will be on how the Browns’ quarterback depth chart shakes out. For now, Gabriel is making the most of his opportunity, determined to make an impression and ready to seize any chance that comes his way.
