Since suffering a devastating leg fracture that’s kept him out of action for four years, Conor McGregor hasn’t been able to catch a break. But now, it seems his bad luck is rubbing off-just ask former close friend Dillon Danis, who just watched $150,000 vanish in a single baseball game.
Once seen as the embodiment of success, McGregor built a legendary UFC career with two championship titles, 22 wins, and a glittering fortune. Outside the Octagon, he’s thrived as a businessman, owning both a pub and an alcohol brand.
And despite not stepping into the cage since 2021, McGregor still lands major endorsements-including with betting platform Duelbits. But his betting streak? Let’s just say it’s been a bit cursed lately-and it might have just dragged Danis down with it.
Danis bets big, loses bigger
There was a time when McGregor and Danis were inseparable-training partners, close friends, and partners in trash talk. While their relationship has since cooled, their mutual love for high-stakes gambling (and occasional bad luck) remains intact.
Danis’s latest heartbreak came this past Friday, when he wagered $150,000 on the New York Yankees to defeat the Miami Marlins. He even posted the bet on Instagram Stories for all to see. But fate-and rookie Agustin Ramirez-had other plans.
The Marlins edged out the Yankees 2-0, thanks to two home runs by Ramirez in the first and fourth innings. Danis hasn’t commented on the loss, but fans didn’t miss the silence after the public brag.
Danis plans a comeback-in the ring
After announcing his retirement in November 2023, Danis was briefly attached to a card for the now-defunct Global Fighting League. But he’s not done yet-he’s set to return to action under the new Misfits MMA banner.
Danis is scheduled to fight on August 30 at Manchester Arena, and fans are eager to see if his luck inside the cage can outshine his gambling streak.
Until then? Maybe it’s time he-and McGregor-take a break from betting.
