Did Juan Soto break the Mets’ locker room?

According to The Athletic’s Tim Britton and Will Sammon, Juan Soto did not necessarily have a negative impact in the clubhouse, but his arrival changed the dynamic in Queens from a talent perspective. “That gap, between an environment that was invariably described as impeccable in 2024 and one that resonated at a different frequency in 2025, is the elephant in the room for these Mets,” Britton and Sammon wrote. “Given the talent, what was missing behind closed doors? What was out of place?”

“Among the sources, there was a consensus: The 2025 clubhouse was understandably different from the 2024 one, and did not have as much daily energy. However, 2024 set an almost impossible clubhouse standard to match, and no one saw the clubhouse as one of the team’s main problems this season.”

“We didn’t have OMG or a pop superstar on our team,” Brandon Nimmo said. “We don’t need to try to make that happen.”

Sammon and Britton also mentioned that Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor made strides in their ability to coexist as team leaders. “Lindor and Soto, the club source continued, will naturally feel more comfortable with each other over time, a process they saw advance this season,” Sammon and Britton wrote.

“Going forward, that’s something the team needs to figure out,” the source said. “It happens organically.”The Mets finished 2025 with an 83-79 record and hope that 2026 will include a more cheerful conclusion.
