Diana Taurasi on the verge of retirement with the latest Phoenix Mercury decisions

Diana Taurasi, one of the greatest legends in women’s basketball and the league’s all-time leading scorer, has been talking about a possible retirement for some time now, as speculation about Diana’s next challenge is always rife.

On this occasion, it seems that retirement is knocking on her door and she may make that decision after the trades Phoenix has made in preparation for next season.

The Mercury made a masterful move by acquiring Satou Sabally from the Dallas Wings in an incredible four-team trade. This move was no coincidence, as #0 had expressed her desire to leave Dallas weeks ago, and Phoenix wasted no time in making her their primary target.

Satou is poised to be an integral part of what could be the new era of the Mercury. But despite the hype, the two-time WNBA All-Star revealed that she hasn’t even had a conversation with Taurasi since the trade.

“I think I should reach out to her. Yeah, no, I’m sure she’s reached out to me before. I mean, she’s the best. We’re in her court right now. I should definitely text her and say, ‘Hi, I’m in your town,'” Sabally said when asked by Diana.

Fans know something is up

Mercury fans are aware that something is about to happen, like the retirement of Diana Taurasi. And the fact is that everything has been a bit suspicious and hasty. The fans’ theory is that Diana did not welcome the new player the way the top players deserve. Diana has been with the franchise for 20 years and the fact that I chose to remain silent is a bad sign.

Retirement may be an option that is certainly on her mind. A few months ago, last October to be exact, she tried to dodge the question by answering: “I don’t take retirement lightly. I know that the moment I say or announce it, whether it’s in a month or two, I mean it.

In the final game of the season, many appreciated a Taurasi far from the spotlight, and the fans only chanted “one more year” at her.

The way it all went down, the ovations and thank-yous, it felt like Diana was saying goodbye to the team. We’ll just have to wait and see if she makes it official and ends the speculation once and for all.

A new era

If she does retire, Phoenix is not worried, all his chips are directly on Satou Sabally, Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper.

They are ready to step up and take on the challenge with great responsibility. Phoenix‘s people are very happy with what they have put together and are aware that they will be looking to put up more of a fight in the WNBA.
