Devin Haney and Brian Norman Jr’s fathers nearly start a fight during explosive press conference

The atmosphere surrounding Saturday’s Ring IV event in Saudi Arabia has been intense all week, but few expected the fathers of the co-main fighters to deliver the week’s most explosive moment. Bill Haney and Brian Norman Sr have been clashing behind the scenes since both families arrived, and the tension finally burst into the open on Thursday night.

Before the press conference even started, security tried keeping the two camps separated. It didn’t help. Bill Haney kept firing verbal jabs from across the backstage area, repeatedly telling Norman Sr that Devin Haney would catch Norman Jr “with a hook.”

Members of Haney’s team piled on with their own jabs, shouting that the Normans would be heading “back to the dumpster truck” after the fight.

By the time everyone walked onto the stage, the mood was already on edge.

This isn’t my first rodeo. It won’t be anything different. I look to bring back the WBO title to my family and my team

Haney vs Norman: A backstage feud turns into a full-on stage incident

Once seated, Bill Haney raised the temperature again by challenging Norman Sr to fight him personally. He went as far as calling on Saudi advisor Turki Alalshikh to “put the money down” to make it happen. Norman Sr brushed the idea off, but that only seemed to light the fuse.

Bill stood up, set his mic aside and tried to march across the stage toward Norman Sr. Security immediately jumped in and held him back as he continued shouting toward the other side of the platform. What could have been a full-blown brawl was stopped within seconds, though the scene left the room buzzing.

Interestingly, the two actual fighters remained calm. Devin Haney and Brian Norman Jr sat back and watched their dads trade insults, even laughing at times at the chaos unfolding in front of them.

When the microphones finally went to the men who will actually fight on Saturday, the tone shifted. Devin kept things composed, saying, “This isn’t my first rodeo. It won’t be anything different. I look to bring back the WBO title to my family and my team.” Norman Jr pushed back with confidence, promising that “the boy is going to sleep,” whether Devin chooses to move or stay in the pocket.

With the fathers already stealing the spotlight once, the focus now turns to the ring. If the energy on stage is any sign, the co-main event might end up matching the wildness of the buildup.
