Growing up in the Curry household meant being surrounded by basketball greatness. As the youngest sibling, Sydel Curry shared an inseparable bond with her brothers, Stephen and Seth, both of whom would go on to become NBA stars.
However, sibling love came with a fair share of competitiveness and, when it came to Sydel‘s personal life, an overwhelming sense of protectiveness-especially in matters of the heart.
A fierce response to high-school heartbreak
During an episode of Cameron Brink’s Straight To Cam podcast, Sydel opened up about a difficult past relationship.
She described her high school boyfriend as “literally the worst” and admitted that she had kept the extent of her struggles private. However, once Stephen and his wife, Ayesha Curry, learned about the situation, their reaction was anything but subtle.
“Stephen and Ayesha were like, ‘We want to cut his b-ls off!’ And I’m like, ‘Easy!'” Sydel recalled.
While she initially hesitated at their dramatic response, she ultimately appreciated their unwavering support.
If Stephen and Ayesha were vocal in their protective nature, Seth took a quieter approach. Sydel revealed an amusing moment from her wedding day to NBA player Damion Lee. As they were heading to the reception, Lee noticed something surprising-Seth had finally followed him on social media.
“He did not follow this, like even acknowledge this man’s existence until he married me,” Sydel laughed.
Unlike Stephen, who was outspoken about his feelings, Seth preferred to keep his distance until he was fully ready to accept his sister’s relationship.
Having two brothers in the NBA meant that Sydel was often surrounded by professional athletes, many of whom she admitted were attractive. However, she made a conscious decision to keep her personal life separate.
“I never tried to intermingle my dating life… So I kept it cute, kept it classy,” she explained.
Even family friend Cameron Brink shared similar experiences, recalling how both Stephen and Seth would disapprove of any potential suitors.
“They would always be like, ‘No. That guy’s dumb,'” she said, highlighting their ever-watchful presence.
Despite their differing approaches, Stephen and Seth‘s protectiveness came from a place of love. Through it all, Sydel managed to balance her personal life while respecting the unwavering loyalty of her family.
