Details emerge about Deion Sanders’ ‘Prime Time’ documentary coming to Netflix

Deion Sanders has always been more than your average athlete. In a single week in 1989, he rocked both the diamond and the gridiron-smashing a home run for the New York Yankees before racing a punt back for a touchdown with the Atlanta Falcons.

That extraordinary double feat cemented his “Prime Time” persona, a nickname first coined during his high-school glory days.

Decades later, that same larger-than-life charisma now fuels his evolution from multi-sport superstar to the charismatic head coach leading the Colorado Buffaloes.

Sanders‘ playing résumé reads like a highlight reel of impossibilities. Over 14 NFL seasons he racked up 53 interceptions and scored nine touchdowns, all while moonlighting on the baseball field in 641 major-league games and suiting up for the 1992 World Series-bound Atlanta Braves.

Yet, it’s his fearless confidence-lounging in postgame interviews, challenging norms, and celebrating with unapologetic flair-that turned a merely impressive career into an enduring legend.

A Deep Dive into the Man Behind the Moniker

Now, Netflix is set to bring viewers even closer to Prime Time’s untold story. In 2026, the streamer will debut PRIME TIME, a three-part documentary that promises to peel back the curtain on Deion Sanders‘ triumphs and trials.

Far beyond flashbulbs and highlight reels, the series will explore his transformation from dual-sport prodigy to head coach at Jackson State and, most recently, the Colorado Buffaloes-where he took a 1-11 squad and reshaped it into a nine-win contender.

More than athletic feats, PRIME TIME will confront the personal challenges that have shaped Sanders‘ journey: a complicated bond with his biological father, harrowing mental-health battles, and life-threatening medical crises that led to the amputation of two toes.

Produced by SMAC Entertainment, Skydance Sports, and NFL Films, and guided by veteran directors and executive producers, the series aims for an unvarnished portrait of a man whose public image has always outpaced the private struggles beneath.

This Netflix undertaking marks a departure from Sanders‘ existing docuseries, Coach Prime, on Prime Video, which chronicled his influence in the college football world. In contrast, PRIME TIME seeks to capture “the truth” behind the legend, letting Sanders narrate his own story in his own voice.

“Y’all knew a part of me each step of the way, but you never knew Deion,” he declared.

By owning his narrative-from the cacophony of fame to the quiet moments of hardship-Sanders is inviting fans to witness the full arc of his extraordinary life. In doing so, PRIME TIME will not just celebrate an icon, but reveal the resilience and faith that keep him at the forefront of sports culture.
