Despite what Soto, Ohtani and Judge earn, for a former Yankee there is a problem with MLB salaries

Despite what Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge earn, a former New York Yankees coach believes there is a major problem with salaries in MLB.

The former New York Yankees manager compared salaries in MLB to the NBA, NFL and NHL.

What did the former Yankees coach say about MLB salaries?

Sean Casey, who was the Yankees hitting coach in 2023, spoke of a major problem he has with MLBsalaries by saying: “Look how healthy the NBA is, look how healthy the NFL is, look how healthy the NHL is, they all have a salary cap. Right now, it’s not healthy that 51 players are making 50% of the money in the big leagues. It’s not healthy that the owners are making well over 50% of the money and the players are making just over 40%“.

What needs to change in MLB salaries?

For Sean Casey himself, something has to change in MLBsalaries, as “Something has to change here. It’s not healthy for teams to be able to have a payroll of less than what Shohei Ohtani makes in a year. I think the minimum salary cap needs to go up. You need to force some of these owners to accept a minimum of $120 million, to put a good product on the field.”

NBA contracts compared to MLB

Sean Casey also said the following when comparing NBA contracts to MLB contracts: “I’m looking at the contracts of some of these guys in the NBA, and I’m like, wow. The sixth man, the seventh man on an NBA roster, making like it’s Aaron Judge money. They’re up there, the $100 million contracts are like candy in the NBA, it’s crazy“.

How much do Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge earn in MLB 2025?

Juan Soto will be the highest-paid baseball player in MLB 2025 with a total of $128.9 million in salary and sponsorship. Shohei Ohtani is expected to earn approximately $102 million between sponsorships and salary. While Aaron Judge currently earns an annual salary of $40,000,000 in the 2025MLB season.
