Derrick Henry ready shows full commitment with the Ravens as team rewards him in a very special way

The Baltimore Ravens have made a significant commitment to their ground game, securing star running back Derrick Henry on a two-year contract extension worth $30 million, with $25 million guaranteed. The deal ensures Henry will remain with the team through the 2027 season, extending his tenure beyond the expiration of his previous contract, which was set to end in 2025.

General Manager Eric DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh had previously expressed their desire to keep Henry in Baltimore long-term, emphasizing his importance in the team’s offensive strategy. With the draft now complete, the Ravens moved quickly to finalize the agreement, ensuring continuity in their rushing attack led by Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Henry, 31, was a dominant force in the Ravens’ successful 2024 campaign, rushing for 1,921 yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns. He also contributed as a receiver, hauling in 19 catches for 193 yards and two scores. His performance was the second-best of his career, trailing only his 2020 season, when he rushed for 2,027 yards and earned AP Offensive Player of the Year honors.

He has a lot of fuel in the tank

The veteran running back remains one of the NFL’s most productive players at his position, currently holding the league lead in active rushing yards (11,423) and rushing touchdowns (106). Despite reaching an age where many running backs see a decline in production, Henry has shown little sign of slowing down, a key reason why Baltimore was willing to commit to him beyond his 2025 contract.

By securing Henry for the next several seasons, the Ravens maintain one of the most feared rushing offenses in the league. His presence alongside Jackson offers a dynamic backfield combination that can wear down defenses and control the tempo of games, making Baltimore a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

With Henry locked in, the Ravens will turn their attention to building upon their recent success, hoping his powerful running style can help propel them deeper into the postseason. As he continues to defy expectations for aging running backs, Baltimore is betting on Henry to remain one of the NFL’s elite at his position well into the latter stages of his career.
