Derrick Henry could star alongside Adam Sandler if he achieves a seldom-seen record

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry has an unconventional incentive to reach a significant milestone this NFL season: a role in an upcoming Adam Sandler movie.

This unique opportunity arose during Henry’s appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” where he expressed admiration for Sandler’s work and a desire to meet the actor.

In response, host Dan Patrick, a friend of Sandler, proposed a challenge: if Henry surpasses 2,000 rushing yards in the 2025 season, he would secure him a part in one of Sandler’s films. Sandler affirmed this proposition in a video message, stating:

“Yo Derrick, I just woke up, you know that. That’s why I look disgusting – on top of the fact that I am disgusting. I love ya, congrats on everything, 2,000 yards-plus gets you not only in the movie, but we have … .”

Henry, visibly delighted, responded: “That’s my dog, man. Hell yeah, man, that’s cool … .”

Midway motivation: aiming for the 2,000-yard mark

Achieving 2,000 rushing yards in a single NFL season is a rare feat, accomplished by only a select few. Henry previously reached this milestone in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans, amassing 2,027 yards. In the 2024 season, his first with the Ravens, he came close with 1,921 yards, just 79 yards short.

At 31, Henry remains a formidable force on the field. His recent two-year, $30 million contract extension with the Ravens underscores the team’s confidence in his abilities. With the added motivation of a potential film role, Henry is poised to make another run at the 2,000-yard mark.

Henry’s enthusiasm for the challenge was evident when he thanked Patrick for facilitating the connection with Sandler: “Dan thank you for sending the … ! Much love!”

While the prospect of a movie appearance is enticing, Henry’s primary focus remains on his performance and contribution to the Ravens’ success. Nevertheless, the unique incentive adds an exciting dimension to his 2025 season aspirations.

Chasing history: The legacy of 2,000-yard seasons

Only nine players in NFL history have surpassed the 2,000-yard rushing mark in a single season. Henry’s 2020 performance places him among legends like Eric Dickerson, whose 2,105-yard record from 1984 still stands. Achieving this milestone again would make Henry the first player to do so twice, solidifying his legacy.

The Ravens’ offensive strategy, featuring quarterback Lamar Jackson and a strong offensive line, provides a conducive environment for Henry’s pursuit. The team’s commitment to a powerful ground game, as evidenced by Henry’s contract extension, aligns with his personal goals.

As the 2025 season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will watch closely to see if Henry can meet the challenge. Whether or not he secures a role in Sandler’s film, his determination and performance will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the league.
