Derek Jeter sees similarities between Dodgers’ current team and Yankees’ glorious dynasty

To talk about a historic team, there is no one better than a historic player. It doesn’t matter if he played for the arch-rival, because only the greats are capable of recognizing the virtues of their peers. Derek Jeter, a Yankees legend, has no qualms about recognizing that the Dodgers are the team of the moment and that they can match the glorious period that New York experienced in the late 1990s and early 21st century.

For the 2026 season, the Los Angeles franchise will arrive with a clear objective: to win a third consecutive championship. They want to prove that they are the most successful organization today and that they want to make history.

For Jeter, the Dodgers’ present resembles the heyday he experienced with the Yankees between 1998 and 2000, when they won three championships. The former player believes there is a good chance that Los Angeles will replicate that moment and, why not, even surpass it.

I’m sure they’ll be big favourites to win again. When you have a great team, you also need a lot of circumstances to go your way. In four of our first five years, we had a lot of those opportunities. Great teams create their own opportunities, but you also have to have a lot of things going your way

Jeter bases his observation on the enormous potential of the Dodgers’ roster with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez. To that, he adds the addition of Kyle Tucker, which strengthens a squad full of talent, experience and power.

What was the Jeter dynasty with the Yankees?

This is when you have to put your memory to work to remember the level of the Yankees between 1996 and 2000. The New York team dominated MLB in a five-year period and could have prolonged its hegemony had it not lost the World Series in 2001 and 2003

  • In 2004, they lost the American League Championship Series to the Red Sox after holding a 3-0 lead. That defeat put an end to the glorious dynasty that had been the protagonist of Major League Baseball for eight years.

Jeter’s history with the Yankees began in 1996 when they were crowned against the Braves. They then swept the San Diego Padres in 1998, again defeated the Braves in 1999 and were crowned by steamrolling the Mets 4-1 in the 2000 World Series.

Are the Dodgers the team of the decade?

Subject to confirmation if they win the three-peat or if they get more titles until 2030, the Los Angeles franchise has won three World Series in six seasons, a mark that opens the door to the discussion of placing the Dodgers as the best team of this decade. In addition to the record, another detail to consider is the impact of marketing and its scheme to form an invincible roster with elite players.
