Deion Sanders will be angry with Shedeur after receiving a fine, but fans reassure him: LeBron James did the same thing

Shedeur Sanders made headlines this week for the wrong reasons after being clocked driving 101 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 71, but how are fans linking him to the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James?

The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m., and the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback was reportedly behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram TRX when he received the speeding ticket for his offense.

What made the situation even more surprising for fans and internet sleuths was the uncanny parallel it drew to another Cleveland sports legend in the four-time NBA champion, who quickly unearthed a story from 2008 in which James was also cited for driving 101 mph on the exact same highway.

Even more striking was the fact that it happened on his 23rd birthday, making him the same age as the NFL debutant, who is the son of Coach Deion ‘Prime’ Sanders, as fans online wasted no time reacting to the coincidence.

One user posted, sarcastically, to X.com (formerly Twitter), “Browns might’ve found something special with Shedeur.”

A second said, “They only hate on Shedeur for getting a speeding ticket and going 101 but no one’s talking about how LeBron did 101 on the same interstate. Got it!”

And a third commented, “Next Cleveland great!”

Is the ticket a good omen for Sanders in Cleveland?

While the incident may not sit well with Sanders’ father, the Cleveland sports community appears ready to move past the speeding ticket-perhaps even seeing it as an odd rite of passage.

If anything, the comparison to LeBron James has created a sense of sarcastic optimism and curiosity about what Shedeur might bring to the Browns ahead of the 2025/26 NFL season.

LeBron James, after all, became a sports icon in Cleveland, leading the Cavaliers to five NBA Finals appearances and securing the franchise’s first championship in 2016 against the Golden State Warriors.

Though the ticket was hardly one of James’ career highlights, the parallel has prompted fans to imagine similar greatness ahead for Sanders as he prepares to tackle professional football.

Once projected as a first-rounder in the 2025 NFL Draft, his fall to the fifth round, where the Browns selected him at No. 144 overall, was one of the draft’s bigger surprises.

Still, Sanders is now part of a competitive quarterback room that includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel and it’s reportedly all to play for, although Flacco is said to hold an age.

As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on whether Sanders can rise above the depth chart and claim the starting role. If he does, the speeding incident might soon be a mere footnote in what could become an impressive career.
