Shedeur Sanders continues to prove that draft position doesn’t define a player. The Cleveland Browns‘ rookie quarterback put together a strong showing in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, throwing for 364 yards and three touchdowns, even though Cleveland fell 31-29.
His performance has solidified his role as the team’s starter for the remainder of the season.
Support for the fifth-round pick has been loud and clear, both on and off the field. Actor and longtime Sanders family supporter Jamie Foxx celebrated the young quarterback’s effort.
“You know you’re the truth when you’re a fifth round pick…but a first round topic,” Foxx wrote.
Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and former coach, enthusiastically agreed, responding with a simple “PREACH!!!”
Deion Sanders was present in the stands for his son’s third career start and shared his pride in the quarterback’s resilience.
“I know the fight behind the fight,” he said. “I know what’s been transpiring behind the curtains, and I’m just proud of him. Because he’s not just saying the right things, he’s doing and living the right things. That’s just who he is. He’s a Sanders.”
Shedeur’s rise with the Browns
Shedeur‘s journey to starting QB wasn’t smooth. Initially the Browns‘ third-string quarterback behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, he earned his first start in Week 12 against the Raiders, leading the team to a 24-10 win.
A tough loss to the 49ers followed, but Week 14 showcased the rookie’s poise and ability to lead the offense, even in a close defeat to Cam Ward and the Titans.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski officially named Sanders the starter for the final four games of the season.
“He has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games,” Stefanski said. “He is very intentional about getting better each and every game he’s out there.”
Though Cleveland is already out of playoff contention, Shedeur‘s rise provides clarity at quarterback for the final stretch of the season and hints at a potential long-term role.
