Deion Sanders reacts to Shilo’s NFL setback: “It’s a pleasure not to worry about him”

Deion Sanders is known for his college football coaching prowess, earning him the nickname “Coach Prime.”

But as much as he has guided numerous college football teams to success, including the Colorado Buffaloes, for which his sons Shilo and Shedeur played, the intertwining of his professional and personal life means that the ups and downs of the football world have affected him as a parent.

After his son, Shilo, was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sanders has taken the time to reflect on what this means for him, not only as a coach, but as a father.

He acknowledged the difficulties Shilo faced, stating, “This too shall pass. Yeah. Just to rock steady. It’s going to be all right. God got this…We’re Sanders. We’re going to have adversity…We’re going to go through trials and tribulations, but we always persevere. We always do.”

BuffTV’s Mark Johnson asked Sanders on a recent episode whether or not he missed seeing Shilo or Shedeur during training camp when they played for the Colorado Buffaloes, to which Sanders offered an honest reflection.

“Not whatsoever. So you’re going to miss them because you’re their dad, and that’s the only life you’ve ever known, right? But it’s a pleasure not to have to worry about him.”

Shilo’s NFL journey

Shilo Sanders, 25, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft but signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent.

His tenure with the team was short-lived, as he was waived following a preseason incident where he was ejected for throwing a punch at Buffalo Bills tight end Zach Davidson.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles labeled the conduct “inexcusable,” leading to Shilo‘s release.

Despite the setback, Deion remains hopeful for his son’s future. He expressed confidence that Shilo would find his path, saying, “We’re praying that he gets another opportunity to go with a team. But if he doesn’t, the plans have already been put forward to what he’s going to do next. Shilo’s a man of many talents… he’s gonna be straight. All the Sanders are gonna be straight, with or without football.”

As Shilo navigates this challenging period, his father’s support remains steadfast. Deion‘s unexpected relief at not having to manage his son’s presence at Colorado reflects a deeper understanding of the personal growth both father and son are experiencing.

While Shilo‘s immediate future in the NFL is uncertain, the Sanders family’s resilience and commitment to each other suggest that this setback may be a stepping stone to greater opportunities.
